Duck – Duck – Goose

DSCN0089I recently bought a used lathe on Craigslist to play with.  It’s a Delta Midi (LA200).  For my first project I decided to make some duck calls.  These are fairly simple to make and look great when done.  Plus they drive the dog nutz when you blow them.  I purchased a Game Call starter kit online.  It came with a mandrel and bushings as well as a predrilled wooden blank, a reed kit and a lanyard.  Within minutes of receipt I had the blank mounted up and began turning it.  The wood that came in the kit was a piece of Cocobolo.  It looked like just an ordinary piece of wood until I started shaping it.
